Dear Editor,

This is to the lady who felt it appropriate to telephone a veteran and express her rants about no Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph on the answering machine, you forgot to leave your name and number so I will explain it now.

The Remembrance Day ceremony was moved from the Town and Country Centre approximately five years ago. The Town and Country Centre was too small and could not accommodate everyone who wished to observe the Remembrance Day ceremony.

The move gave shut-in veterans an opportunity to attend the service. After the ceremony at the Genesis Place, the Legion colour party quickly packs up and rushes to the cenotaph to perform a small service there, laying the wreath for the Unknown Soldier, observing two minutes of silence, last post and revile also inviting others to lay either a wreath or poppy.

The Royal Canadian Legion has a limited pool of veterans/volunteers who volunteer to perform the rituals of Remembrance Day. Would you please call back? I will be looking for volunteers for the 2014 Remembrance day service.

Bob McNevin,

President of Airdrie Legion #288
