Another year is upon us, and once again the statistics tell the story when it comes to the community’s use of Airdrie Public Library (APL).

APL offers a wide variety of programs and services for all ages, and the numbers continue to rise for use and participation. As of the end of November:

• APL had 17,589 cardholders.

• The library logged 144,729 patron visits.

• Our circulation was 381,680.

When it comes to our preschool literacy programs, their popularity is always high. Throughout 2013, 6,315 preschoolers participated in our registered programs; 2,211 attended the drop-in programs; and 2,009 took part in our travelling programs (some of which were put on in partnership with Community Links). Including daycare outreach, preschool tours and special events, the preschool total came to more than 12,000.

As for teens and tweens, nearly 600 young people took part in our monthly programs specifically for their age groups, and the total for all school-age programs (e.g. L’heure du Conte, Junior Artists, Spanish for Kids and Summer Reading Club) came to more than 8,365.

In the library, 19,078 people availed themselves of our computers, and our information services assisted with 17,887 requests/questions. We also provided a wide array of other free programs, from flu clinics to author visits, from art displays and an art gala to Sunday Cinema for the family.

In the New Year, we continue to provide these ever-popular programs, along with other special offerings, such as winter Wellness sessions with Alberta Health Services and Your digital Library classes. We will also be introducing our new website early in 2014, so check out our new look online.

In the meantime, for more information on what APL has to offer, drop in, call us at 493-948-0600 or visit airdriepubliclibrary.ca
