Re: “Rocky View Publishing assistant editor is urging residents to clear their sidewalks,” Jan. 16

Dear Editor,

I have lived on Meadowbrook Drive since October 1983. My street is designated a school bus route and I will admit that I can at least drive down the middle of the path left by the snowplows relatively easily.

However, in all this time the City of Airdrie has only made one effort to remove vast amounts of snow on my street and that was after the blizzard of April 1986. They came with front end loaders and trucks to remove every trace of the snow. As everyone living here knows - they have made little or no effort whatsoever to remove the massive dump we received last December.

So I took the bull by the horns and hired a Bobcat operator to clean the area in front of my house and sidewalk. I really do not care one whit whether it was against some stupid City bylaw. I also had them clean off my neighbours area because they always help me with my sidewalk.

During this exercise, many of my neighbours up and down the street came to hire these two young fellows to clean their areas as well. So now when you drive down Meadowbrook, you can see many patches of clean and dry pavement, but that only happened because we took care of it ourselves.

Brian Rosebrugh,

Airdrie
