The scene will be set for a trip back in time March 22, as Luxstone Manor will transform into a hot spot straight out of the 1940s that is sure to be the cat’s meow.

The Blast from the Past Tribute Dance from the 1940s is the brainchild of Robyn Pearson, owner of A Friend Indeed, a service that provides seniors with companions who visit with them, take them to appointments or out shopping.

Pearson said she was inspired to create the dance by several of her clients that reminisced with her about the dances they used to attend in their youth and about dancing with their significant other.

“Hopefully (Blast for the Past) will recreate some of those memories and provide an enjoyable evening for the seniors,” Pearson said.

The dance, which runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will feature hotsy-totsy period music, spiffy 1940’s costumes and a photographer taking street-style photos of people coming into the dance. Street-style photography is a form of candid photography that was very popular in the ‘40s.

“It’s another opportunity in Airdrie to get dressed up, get together with friends and to have a nice evening out where there are friends and memories,” Pearson said.

The event is free with a donation to the Airdrie Food Bank but does require a ticket to attend. Tickets are available at Luxstone Manor, located at 2014 Luxstone Blvd., or Community Links North Office located at Suite 105, 104 – 1 Ave.

“Given that it’s a tribute to the 1940s, the dance is aimed at seniors, however, if family members want to come they are welcome as long as they have a ticket,” Pearson said.

The vintage event will also include light refreshments and is sponsored by Luxstone Manor and A Friend Indeed.
