This months recipient can teach us all a lesson. But it’s easy for her since she’s been teaching lessons to Grade 1 students for more than 20 years. The lesson this time, don’t wait until it’s too late.

The mobile mammogram unit made it to town and Maxine decided to have herself checked out. No need in telling you what they found. What we do want to tell you is what she did next.

She had to take time off from her paying gig but that didn’t stop her from continuing being “the teacher.” However, instead of six year olds she is teaching women of all ages not to wait and get themselves tested and do it every year. There aren’t many ways to prevent breast cancer so the best option is to detect it early enough so that it can be treated.

With surgery coming soon and after doing all the other things to get herself back into the classroom, Maxine enjoys the simple things in life. So when we approached supporters for help we had three goals: Help her spend time with her family, spend time with her friends and allow her to enjoy some “me” time.

So with that Accro Woodworking heard she loves wing nights with friends. So they will be treating her to just that. She can pick her favourite place, invite her friends and just enjoy. As Rob from Accro suggested, hopefully she can take the birthday cake from Avenue Cakery & Bakeshoppe in with her. If the owner of the restaurant has a problem with that... bribe them with a piece. That will work for sure.

Woodside Golf Course heard she plays a bit of golf and that spending time with her family is paramount. So the day is on them. A round of golf with her husband and son followed by a great dinner. Maybe more wings since they’re so good there.

Wendy at the Hair Lounge knows all about beauty and even though she doesn’t do wigs, hair is her business. Since Maxine likes to play around with different wigs for different looks Wendy wanted to help out with a Visa gift card.

SummerHill Florist and Natural e Green both long-term supporters of this program are also involved again and both have donated gift cards to their businesses.

The Morrison’s of Morrison and Partners Wealth Strategies are no strangers to hearing horrible news like this. So when we asked them for $500 cash we received a two-word answer, of course.” This goes hand in hand with their charity

Last but certainly not least, Murray Pound of Gold Seal homes has a bit of a personal connection to Maxine and when we say a bit, we mean a big one. His daughter is a past student of Maxine’s and she had a big impact on her and she was saddened to hear of the diagnosis. So with all she has been through Murray decided a spa day was in order so she could just relax.

Without our supporters, this program could not survive and we want to thank them all so very much.

We also have to thank Maxine’s Angel for telling us about her. Without people like you we wouldn’t know who needs a little help.
