If you’re looking for employment, the Airdrie Employment Services Job and Career Fair might be the ticket to your dream job.

The fair takes place April 15, at the Rocky View Schools Education Centre located at 2651 Chinook Winds Drive, and has a tentative lineup of more than 20 employers and seven organizations offering career training advice.

“It’s a full menu of jobs and training options people can look into,” said fair organizer Nik Dubowik, supervisor at Rocky View Employment Services.

The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and features employers from a wide range of fields. Representatives from retail stores located in CrossIron Mills mall in Balzac such as Ardene, Bed Bath & Beyond and Danier Factory Outlet will be on hand at the event. Rocky View Schools Division, GoodLife Fitness, UPS, Lowes and Canadian Property Stars will also have representatives there to meet potential employees.

Dubowik calls the fair a great networking opportunity for people to meet representatives from these companies, ask and answer questions, arrange follow-up interviews and possibly walk out with a job offer.

“Most people don’t find jobs in the traditional way of posting an ad,” he said. “Networking is crucial.”

He suggests attendees dress appropriately for the job they are looking for.

“If you’re unsure, dress up,” he said.

He added potential employees should come with a handful of resumes and be prepared to answer questions about their skills, experience and why they would be an asset.

The fair is primarily focused on Airdrie and Rocky View County employers but does include some organizations with job sites in Calgary.

Not only is the fair about connecting workers with employers, it is also providing training opportunities to help residents get the job they want.

“We’ll have some local school and service providers,” he said of the training options at the event.

Schools and service providers tentatively attending the fair include Rocky View Schools Division, Bow Valley College, Academy of Learning, Lifemark, Money Mentors, Olds College and Alberta Works.
