Airdrie City staff is asking residents to do their part by filling out their 2014 census, that got underway on April 16.
The City receives $274 in provincial and federal grants for each resident counted in the census because grants are based on population counts. The more accurate the count, the more dollars the City will receive to provide services to citizens.
A pink door hanger with a unique PIN (Personal Identification Number) will be placed on the door of every residence in the city. Residents can use this PIN in combination with their home address to complete the census online at www.airdrie.ca/census.
Every resident who enters their census information online will be entered for a chance to win a Genesis Place family pass. For those who do not have online access, census workers will visit homes and collect the information.
ďFor any residents that we havenít heard back from two weeks after the census goes out, our census workers will go by those residences to collect the information,Ē said Lynda Phelan, team leader of Corporate Communications.
The deadline to fill out your 2014 census is May 31.
In 2013, Airdrieís population was 49,560 which marked an 8.42 per cent growth rate, compared to the 2012 growth rate of 5.92 per cent.
In addition to grant money from other levels of government, decisions regarding future transportation networks, the locations of schools, parks, utilities and fire protection facilities are based to a large extent on population growth statistics collected in the census.
