The Airdrie Aces track and field team will be doing something different for a fundraising drive on May 7.

Members of the team and artists from Airdrie will be putting their work on display for a silent auction, which will be held in the McDonald’s Play Room at Genesis Place Recreation Centre from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

“The reason that we went with an event like this was mainly because of how different it is as a fundraiser,” Aces Coach Jodie Matsuba-Szucs said.

“When you do events like a 50/50 or a chocolate drive, it usually ends up being the parents who end up paying the money,” she added.

“So we thought we would be more creative by having the kids do something, and a lot of them are getting into it.”

Matsuba-Szucs also pointed out that it’s not just artwork that will be up for bids on May 7, which will see all of the money raised go to the Aces track team

“We’ve had some people submit stories they have written and other different things that you wouldn’t expect,” she said.

“It’s been interesting to see what everyone has come up with so far.”
