Calgary Police Services (CPS) arrested a man in connection with an April 21 break and enter at the Chiniki Gas Bar on Stoney First Nation, west of Cochrane.
Cochrane RCMP were notified of the intrusion at around 1:30 a.m. after Morley Security personnel responded to an alarm at the gas bar.
When security personnel arrived at the gas bar, they noticed an individual with his face covered inside.
“The individual did steal some items and we’re waiting for the owners to complete an inventory check so we know what was taken,” said Cpl. Mel Calahasen of the Cochrane RCMP.
When the individual noticed security personnel, he exited the gas bar and fled the scene in a grey or silver Ford truck. Initial patrols by police were unsuccessful in locating the man or the vehicle.
Members of Morley Security were able to obtain a license plate identification on the vehicle and subsequent investigation by CPS led to the man’s arrest in Calgary.
The man has since been released and is scheduled to make a court appearance in Cochrane.
“We have video footage from security cameras as well as eye witness accounts from the security officers,” said Calahasen.
“The court date might not be for a little bit because we have to get the reports from CPS and Cochrane RCMP and Morely Security all together.”
