Re: “Gay Straight Alliances should not be legislated,” Letter April 24

Dear Editor,

As Mr. Neufeld said, “you cannot force people to accept other people’s lifestyles” and he is right. For centuries homosexual, bisexual and transgendered people have been forced to accept a heterosexual lifestyle and it has led to suicides, murders, and countless unhappy lives as a result.

The days of calling anything but heterosexuality a “lifestyle” are hopefully coming to an end.

It is time to stop forcing heterosexual morality on people, and perhaps legislating an updated, open-minded, kind-spirited form of morality - such as that offered by Gay Straight Alliances - is the best way.

Such organizations would not be necessary if homophobia did not still hover like a dark shadow over our society.
