We commend Airdrie City council for deciding not to support three Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP) decision items to be considered at an upcoming meeting of the 14-municipality organization. (See story on pages 1 and 2).

Airdrie citizens elect council members to represent their best interests and thatís exactly what our aldermen are doing.

It is important that Airdrie is a part of the CRP and we agree that an organization which brings municipalities together to ensure growth is sustainable is a positive collaboration.

However, ensuring municipalities are protecting themselves when it comes to water and wastewater services and questioning Calgaryís veto power is exactly what aldermen should be doing to ensure the Calgary Metropolitan Plan (CMP), which seems like a great idea on paper, is not used to bully smaller municipalities into doing what Calgary wants.

We commend the four aldermen who voted not to support the decision items and look forward to seeing how other municipalities vote on May 15.
