Re: “Blue bin program would be good addition to Airdrie,” Letter May 1.

Dear Editor,

I just wish to express my thanks to another recent transplant from Ontario coming here to set us poor Westerners straight.

She says she was shocked on arrival to realize Airdrie doesn’t have a recycling program (that suits her wants) in place, but apparently knows nothing about Airdrie’s actual existing recycling system, or chooses to ignore what is currently available to her.

She also says that not all residents will choose to pay Kick It To The Curb to pick up their recycling, and she is correct in that. It’s not so arduous to take your own recycling to one of the City’s drop-off points, already paid for through City taxes, you just have to make a small effort.

The blue-bin fairy fortunately is still in Ontario, along with consequent higher taxes, so any program here would likely involve yet another user fee, which I personally do not want to pay.

Dave Flather, Airdrie
