The City of Airdrie has put out the call to local artists to take part in the City’s third annual Art in Motion Campaign.

Artists from Airdrie of all ages will have an opportunity to have their art displayed on Airdrie Transit’s monthly passes.

A total of 24 pieces of art will be selected for use on local and ICE (InterCity Express) passes by a committee made up of representatives from Airdrie Regional Arts Society, Creative Airdrie, Airdrie Transit, an Airdrie Transit rider and the City’s graphic design department.

Submissions for the campaign are due by June 1 and winning submissions will be selected by June 14.

The first passes will be rolled out in September and two different pieces of art will be in circulation on ICE and local passes over the following 12 months.

“Airdrie’s arts and culture community is blossoming and Airdrie Transit is pleased to continue building our relationship with Creative Airdrie and local artists through the Art in Motion project,” said Chris MacIsaac, Airdrie Transit coordinator.

Artists are free to submit as many images as they wish, as multiple pieces of work by the same artist may be selected to be displayed on the monthly passes.

“We just want our local artists to know that this campaign is going on and that this is a great way to get your work out there and into the hands of residents,” said Barb Imler, administrative assistant with Airdrie Transit.

At press time, there were 14 pieces of art submitted by four different artists, though Imler is expecting many more as there is usually a big influx of submissions close to deadline.

Submissions must be 300 dots per inch (dpi) resolution.
