Airdrie Public Library is always working to fulfil our members’ wants and needs. With that in mind, we are pleased to launch our new Popular Picks program, which will offer popular books and DVDs/Blu-rays for our members in a timely fashion and only at the library.

The program is in response to information gleaned through our recent Facilities Needs Assessment, in which Airdrie residents established various service priorities for the library. One of these priorities is the need to provide entertainment and recreation, with the specific request for faster access to popular items.

Starting in June, the Popular Picks collection will consist of two copies of popular titles that are only available via browsing at APL. Members may sign out one item (book or DVD/Blu-ray) at a time. These titles will not be available in TRAC for holds and they will not be renewable; however, there will always be an existing title in the APL regular collection. So stop by and browse to your hearts content.

This month, we will also be holding our Read Away the Summer book sale June 14 to 15. There are great bargains to be had as you stock up for summer (and enjoy some free popcorn, too):

• paperbacks – 5 for $2

• hardcovers – 5 for $5

• combination – 13 books plus a library book bag for $13.

On June 12, chiropractor and certified infant massage instructor Dr. Melanie Beingessner will be presenting an hour-long course on Infant Massage, a simple and effective way for parents and caregivers to promote bonding through touch. The course is for babies up to 12 months, and participants should bring a blanket for baby to lie on. Two times are available: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; registration is required.

For more information on all of APL’s programs and services, visit us at airdriepubliclibrary.ca, call 403-948-0600 or drop by.
