Bert Church High School will be missing two familiar faces next year as both Principal Pam Davidson and Assistant Principal Jeff Smith will be making the move to different schools.
Davidson, who has been the school’s principal for the last three years will be heading to Springbank High School where she will take the lead as principal there.
“As a strong advocate of shared leadership, trust, and vision with a student-centric focus, Pam is an exemplary team leader and a perfect fit to assume the role of principal of Springbank High School,” said Rocky View Schools (RVS) Superintendent of Schools Don Hoium in a press release.
“Although I am sure the Bert Church school community will miss her, I am very excited to watch Pam collaboratively lead the staff through its high school redesign project and help introduce the school’s dual credit program on Natural Resources Management and Environmental Science in partnership with Mount Royal University and Bow Point Nursery,” he added.
Davidson has been with RVS since 1992 and has served as teacher, assistant principal and principal. Along with Bert Church, she has served as principal at Meadowbrook School and Springbank Middle School.
“I am very pleased that Pam is returning to the Springbank area in this new capacity,” said RVS Board of Trustees Chair Colleen Munro in the press release. “I know her track record of being a conscientious, collaborative and innovative leader will serve the Springbank community well.”
Laurie Johnston-Drebert will be filling Davidson’s shoes as acting principal in September.
Johnston-Drebert comes from George McDougall High School where she is currently the assistant principal.
“Laurie is an experienced administrator with a track record for being passionate about students and their learning journey,” Hoium said in the release.
“I thank Laurie for stepping up to take on this role during the school’s transition.”
Johnston-Drebert joined RVS in 1998 but left the jurisdiction in 2006 to serve as an administrator for the School District of Mystery Lake in Manitoba. She returned to RVS in 2011 to her current role at George McDougall.
“Laurie’s focus to co-create schools of hope, inclusion, caring and respect will serve her well,” said Munro.
“We look forward to working with her in this new leadership role in the months ahead.”
Smith, the Bert Church High School’s current assistant principal, will also be saying goodbye to the Bert Church school community as he makes the move to Ralph McCall School where he will be taking on the role of assistant principal there.
