The Airdrie Pro Rodeo is gearing up to name its 2014 Rodeo Queen and Princess on July 1.
This year, the competition recorded the highest number of contestants vying for the top spot at six.
Battling it out for the crown this year will be: Emily Marsten, Terra Chalack, Lindsay Newman, Kelly Galleli, Quinn Diaz and Mazlie Gehring.
Last year’s winner, The 2013 Miss Rodeo Queen Kelsey Reinboldt-Lynch, will be on hand to pass on the crown on Canada Day at the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds.
The contestants have been busy impressing the judges with a public speaking event held on June 11 and a fashion show held at the Boys and Girls Club on June 14.
“The public speaking was a great event, the girls competed really well,” said Airdrie Pro Rodeo Royalty Director Leanne Grenier.
“It was a very informative night and we had a great turn out at the Cedarwood Lodge. I would say about 30 to 40 people showed up, which was higher than normal.”
Grenier credits a new location, and advertising for the increase in contestants and observers at this year’s events.
“With more contestants, there’s generally more family that attends the events,” she said.
“The fashion show was phenomenal, the Boys and Girl Club was a great location to host it,” she said.
“We had 66 people come and watch the show, as well as a live and silent auction, the girls did a synchronized swimming stint, which was a big hit,” Grenier said.
The pageant is set to kick off June 27 to July 1 with the crowning of this year’s Rodeo Queen and Princess will be on July 1 during the intermission of the rodeo.
“The girls will be in the arena and around the rodeo for the five days. The crowning for the July 2014 Queen and Princess will happen during intermission on July 1,” she said.
“Come and cheer on your favourite girl.”
