Itís here!

After years of planning, the date has finally arrived - the 2014 Alberta Summer Games will have kicked off by the time you read this. See related stories on page 21 to 26.

We could not be more thrilled to welcome more than 3,000 athletes, their coaches and families and other spectators to our wonderful community for a four-day celebration of all things sport.

Once again thousands of volunteers have come together to set up venues, keep score, house and feed the athletes and take on every task from lighting the torch during the starting ceremonies to picking up garbage.

We have polished the athletic facilities in this community to a bright shine and are proud to show the results of our hard work to our visitors.

We would like to take the time to thank everyone who donated any amount of time to this event.

It takes a dedicated, generous person to give up their personal time with their families, business, school and other aspects of their life to make an event the size and scale of the Alberta Summer Games come together.

The legacy of the Games will live on for years in Airdrie and the economic benefits of thousands of residents visiting our hotels, restaurants and retail outlets are phenomenal.

We canít wait to see you at the dozens of events that will be taking place this weekend!
