The 2014 Alberta Summer Games are behind us and what a successful event it was! See our complete coverage on pages 1, 2, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23.

Thousands of athletes, coaches, friends, family members and spectators came from around the province (and further) to witness the four-day event that kicked off on July 24.

We heard so much feedback from Airdrie residents and guests about how impressed they were by the quality and cleanliness of the facilities, the food served at the events, the smiling faces of the helpful volunteers and of course the exceptional athletes who showed off their incredible skills.

We have said time and time again that none of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers who gave up their time to organize and facilitate an event of this size.

Many are now giving a sigh of relief and spending some time with their friends and family as their free time becomes their own again.

They can get back to their summer knowing they did an incredible job creating a successful event that attracted thousands to Airdrie and put our name on the map yet again as a destination for sports.

Between the 2009 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games and the 2014 Alberta Summer Games, we have proven we are capable of not only pulling off, but putting on exceptional sporting events.

With all these passionate and ambition volunteers in our midst, we canít wait to hear what major event Airdrie will host next.
