Volunteer thanks community for Games

As the food services director for the Airdrie 2014 Alberta Summer Games, I want Airdrie to know how proud I am of my community. The board of directors worked diligently for two years to plan and implement these Games; however, these Games were a success because of the support of many.
To my team – Shane, Jim, Glenda, Tammy, Joy, Rhonda, Helen and Colleen – thank you for supporting me and for contributing your time and talents to this event. Each of you sacrificed sleep, leisure, family time and even work to ensure that your area was managed and managed well. You recruited your family and your friends to volunteer and many of them worked eight- to 16-hour days during the Games. Thank you all so very much. I am proud to call you my friends.
To our business community – thank you for all that you do to support Airdrie. The food services team was touched by the generosity and kindness of many sponsors, big and small. Feeding 2,770 participants three times a day, including snacks and hydration, is a very daunting task and one that would have been even more difficult without the support of the business community. Without fail, when one of my team members or I reached out to businesses for support, the response was yes. A special thank you to Allan, Steve and Techmation for swooping in and saving the day.
The City of Airdrie staff were a tremendous support to our team. The staff at Genesis Place, in particular Brian, were nothing short of amazing.
You worked long, hard hours, and were there whenever we needed you. It must have been hard to answer all of my calls and texts at all hours, and yet you never once made me feel like I was being a bother. Russ, community safety officer, saved the day for us. Thanks Russ for your assistance – I will be forever in your debt. Thanks to all of the City of Airdrie Building Inspections team for helping us with the permit process and for your patience as we worked to ensure we met all of the appropriate safety standards.
The backbone of the Summer Games is without a doubt the volunteers. Thank you to Mattamy Homes for providing the great volunteer T-shirts. Thank you to FortisAlberta, Superstore and Cora’s for sending in the troops to volunteer – the volunteer support from these businesses was heartwarming and greatly appreciated!
Friends, family, business associates, people we had never met, from ages nine to 80 and older all stepped in to lend a hand. Each of these volunteers represented our community in the best possible light.
It warmed my heart to work with so many fantastic people. A very special thank you to my family – the epitome of voluntolds: you are amazing!
We did it Airdrie – we hosted an amazing event which created lasting memories for thousands of young athletes. We should all be so proud of our community. I know I am.
