Time is running out for golfers who want to hit the links at Woodside Golf Course on Aug. 15 for the 13th annual Airdrie Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic.

Registration for this year’s tournament, which begins at 1:15 p.m., closes on Aug. 11, as organizers will be setting up the groups for the afternoon of golf in the days leading up to the event.

“We would like to be able to allow more golfers the chance to register for the event as close as we could to the event date, but because of the food orders that the golf course has to put through ahead of time, we can’t really leave things until the last minute,” Airdrie Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lorna Hunt said.

“The most amount of golfers that we can have is 144 for the tournament, at we’ve only had two sold out tournaments in the past 12 years,” she added. “We’re hoping that we can get a sold-out event this year.”

The 18-hole tournament, which costs $180 to enter and includes a power cart, on-course food and beverages and prizes, is not only a fundraiser event for the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, it’s also used to get Chamber members, friends, and colleagues out for an afternoon of fun.

“It’s an opportunity for our members to network with one another out on the course instead of being stuck in the office,” Hunt said. “It’s a fun and casual event, and I think that’s why it’s been a success for the last 13 years.”

“The event has been pretty straight forward over the years with how it runs, but we are trying something new this year by having food and beverages available to the golfers on every second hole,” she added. “After the round, there will be more of a light dinner and desert for the golfers, so we’re excited about trying something new that way.”

Registration forms for this year’s tournament can be found on the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce’s website at www.airdriechamber.ab.ca
