A Calgary man was arrested and charged with impaired driving and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking Dec. 4, after Airdrie RCMP pulled him over during a routine traffic stop, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Const. Dan Martin.
“The fellow was trying to stay behind the police car and was making obvious attempts (to stay behind the police car) as it slowed down,” he said. “The member was eventually able to get the car to stop and he got the plates and then the truck took off at a high rate of speed.”
Further attempts to stop the driver on Summerfield Boulevard were eventually successful, according to Martin. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a quantity of drugs. The incident took place at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Abraham Dau Donato Dau, 31, is also charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.
Dau was released on a promise to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Feb. 1, 2018.
Airdrie RCMP is asking for help to identify two men involved in a theft from the Airdrie Liquor Store on Yankee Valley Boulevard Dec. 12.
According to Martin, the pair entered the store at approximately 8:15 p.m. A witness told RCMP the two men immediately began acting suspiciously with one trying to distract the store clerk. One of the men grabbed a bottle of Hennessy cognac off the counter and ran out the main entrance, followed by the second man. Witnesses told police they believe the pair then fled in a small, dark-coloured four-door car. The value of the bottle of liquor is approximately $80.
RCMP describes the first man as being approximately 30 years old with dark hair. He was clean-shaven and was wearing a dark-coloured hoodie and a blue baseball cap.
The second suspect is described as also being approximately 30 years old with dark hair and a trimmed beard. He was wearing a dark-coloured plaid shirt and dark-coloured pants.
Martin said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call Const. Nicole Claveau at the Airdrie detachment at 403-945-7267.
Martin said RCMP is also looking for any information about the culprit responsible for spray-painting some kind of symbol on an electrical box and mailbox in the community of Morningside Dec. 17 at approximately 10 p.m.
“We got a complaint about somebody vandalizing the electrical boxes and some City property,” he said. “We’re just looking for anyone who might have seen something and can tell us about it.”
Martin said the man was wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, purple Vans shoes and carrying a black book bag that appeared to have a white square decal on it.
