There’s a price to friendship.
Foothills Falcon runningback Payton Price amassed more than 150 yards rushing and had two touchdowns to lead Foothills to a 33-0 victory over the Holy Trinity Academy Knights in the Big Rock Football Conference final Friday at Knights Field.
“This rivalry — I have been playing with some of the HTA guys since I was eight years old — it’s like we are brothers,” Price said after the game. “It brings the best out of a player, in a good way.”
The Falcons took advantage of four first-half Knights turnovers to jump out to a 30-0 lead at the half.
Foothills opened the scoring on a 12-yard TD run by Payton Burbank midway through the first quarter, capping off a short-field 45-yard drive as a result of an HTA fumble.
The Falcons locked the game up after 24 minutes as they had a virtually unbeatable 30-0 lead going into the locker room at half.
Price had a pair of TDs, one a two-yard run, and another a powerful 25-yard run when he went up the middle and cut to the outside to finally dive into the corner of the end zone.
They put the game away when Falcons QB Tyson Pitcher hit a wide-open Tanner Young for a 75-yard TD just before the half to make it 30-0 at the half.
The Knights proved why they went into the game undefeated and ranked no. 3 in the province by shutting the Falcons attack down in the second half until Foothills’ Seth Nelson kicked a 23-yard field goal late in the game to make it 33-0.
“I was very proud of the way we played in the second half,” Knights coach Matt Hassett said. “Hat’s off to Foothills. They came out and jumped on us early. I was just glad we stepped up and played well in the second half and showed what we were about.”
The loss ended the Knights’ season with a 5-1 record. The Falcons will host a Southern Alberta playoff game next Saturday at Falcon Field.
Further details about Big Rock Council final will appear in the Nov. 1 edition of the Western Wheel.
