Family Day came early for me

I celebrated Family Day early this week.
My sister and her family headed out to Alberta for Family Day this past weekend, well it was Family Day in B.C. where they call home. B.C. celebrated Family Day on Feb. 12, while the occasion will be marked in Alberta this coming Monday, Feb. 19.
Itís a rare occasion these days when my whole family is able to come together Ė that would be my parents, my sister and brother in-law and my niece and nephew and my wife and I.
We try to make the most of it whenever the stars align.
My mother relishes the opportunity to dote on her grandchildren and I look forward to any chance I get to spend with my sister and with my niece and nephew.
With all the freshly fallen snow in Calgary, it was a Family Day they wonít soon forget, either.
While plenty of time was spent playing board games indoors. We ventured outside to dive into snow piles and go tobogganing before running back in for hot chocolate with marshmallows.
It was a short, whirlwind visit but it was one we all enjoyed.
Itís not always easy for everyone with busy work schedules and busy school schedules, and sports, and extra-curricular activities and projects around the house, etc.
I admit that among my household and extended family we donít often get much time in our lives to come together.
Two weekends past, I was at birthday parties for my aunt and a cousin in Coaldale. It didnít go unnoticed among most in attendance, that opportunities to get together are few and far between nowadays.
For some of us, it was the first time weíd been able to see each other for several years.
Family Day should be every weekend. That said, anything that can bring families together these days is a good thing.
