Longview residents will hear the thoughts and opinions of their future council in the village’s municipal election forum next week.
The Longview Seniors Club is hosting an all candidates forum at the community hall where Walter Fox, Christina Weir and incumbents Carole MacLeod and Kathie Wight will have five minutes to discuss their platforms before answering questions put forward by the public on Oct. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Voters cast their ballots to select three people for village council on Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the community hall with advanced polls Oct. 5 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the hall.
“We have two incumbents and two new people who are fairly new to the village,” said Ivor McCorquindale, who will be the moderator at the forum. “At least one of the new ones is going to get in.”
The former councilor and mayor, who is also chairman of the seniors club, hopes to see a good crowd attend the forum.
“When I ran the last time we had about 30 people,” he said. “That’s pretty good for the village.”
Last week, the candidates went door to door distributing forms for the public to write questions for the candidate(s) of their choice and submit them to the village office by Oct. 4.
The candidates will be presented the questions before the forum to allow time for research if needed.
McCorquindale said if time permits, those in attendance can also ask questions and later enjoy refreshments with the candidates.
The format of the forum is similar to past elections, he said.
