The fire department will be doing its annual food bank drive next week, Nov. 6 for Turner Valley residents and Nov. 7 for Black Diamond.
The poppy campaign kicks off on Oct. 27. Wear your poppy with pride and remembrance.
You may want to mark your calendar for the Priddis turkey supper on Nov. 10. It always has great food and the opportunity to catch up with old friends.
There is a sign-up sheet at the club for our Wednesday Christmas bridge luncheon and afternoon of cards.
It is set for Dec. 6 and the plan is to meet for lunch at the Diamond Valley restaurant at 11:30 a.m. Anyone who has played with the group on Wednesday is welcome to attend, but please stop by and add your name to the list.
According to Earth/Sky news, the reason leaves turn color in the fall is that the vivid yellow and orange colors of the fall leaves have actually been there throughout spring and summer, but we havenít been able to see them. The deep green of chlorophyll, which helps plants absorb life-giving sunlight, hides the other colors.
In the fall, trees break down the green pigment and nutrients stored in the leaves, as leaves lose their chlorophyll, other pigments become visible to the human eye.
Some leaves turn mostly brown, indicating that all pigments are gone. Red and burgundy leaves are a different story, Iíll elaborate on that next week. Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower: Albert Camus.
