Time to think of our future

As I mature I find that I worry about things far more than I used to. When I was 20 years old I took for granted that Alberta is a place of prosperity and that I would always be able to earn a living here.
Now that Iím older Iím far more informed and the state of the Alberta economy and our future prosperity is something that I worry about more than I should.
The CBC reported this week that the USA plans to increase its oil production by an additional 1.3 million barrels per day in 2018, which will make the USA the worldís largest oil producer. From my layman perspective, this increased supply in the USA will further reduce the demand for oil imported from Alberta and the price that they are willing to pay for it.
Pipeline expansions to tidewater to sell to places where the demand is greater are uncertain for political reasons and our provincial debt and the interest payments on that debt continues to pile up.
I certainly donít have all the answers but it seems clear to me that we cannot continue on as we are and expect our prospects of future prosperity to improve.
