Miller Aerosol Art Camp

A number of artists came to Miller Paint Park, near Nose Creek Valley Museum, with their spray paint ready on Sept. 28 as they took part in the Miller Aerosol Art Camp as part of ARTember. Artists created colourful pieces of public art.

Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter, located in Crossfield, held the Paw It Forward adoption event on Sept. 27 at the shelter. The event allowed participants to adopt cats and kittens for a reduced adoption fee. Four adult cats and one kitten found their forever homes and were adopted at the event.

Nose Creek students get up close with ambassador animals

The Earth Rangers, a non profit group with a a mission to educate and empower children about wildlife, showed students at Nose Creek Elementary School their ambassador animals during an assembly on Sept. 24. Animal included a three-banded armadillo, a red fox, an African serval, a peregrine falcon and an American kestrel.

The Great Cupcake Eating Challenge

ARTember wrapped up with Culture at the Creek at Nose Creek Park from Sept. 26 to 28. Back again this year was The Great Cupcake Eating Challenge on Sept. 28, where competitors had to eat as many Avenue Cakery and Bakeshoppe cupcakes as they could in eight minutes. The Challenge ended in a tie with both Gary Ramsay and Courtney Johnson eating nine cupcakes.

Light Up the Night Gala at the Chinook Winds Firehall

Airdrie Health Foundation (AHF) celebrated the inaugural Light Up the Night Gala on Sept. 27 at Chinook Winds Firehall. The fundraiser event included fire dancers, a sit-down dinner, live entertainment, a silent auction, speeches from higher ranking government officials and a dance. The event raised more than $10,000 for AHF and will go towards health education and equipment in Airdrie.

Art of the Harvest at Airdrie Agricultural Park

The Airdrie Agricultural Society held their annual Art of the Harvest event on Sept. 26 at the Airdrie Agricultural Park, located three kilometres west of Airdrie. The old time harvest event used antique equipment and traditional harvest methods to show onlookers how farmers from the past would harvest their crops.

ARTember wraps up with Culture at the Creek

ARTember, Airdrie's annual celebration of arts and culture, wrapped up on Sept. 26 to 28 with Culture at the Creek in Nose Creek Park. The weekend festival included performances from local schools, kids activities, the Airdrie Farmer's Market Food Truck Frenzy, CARTember (a show and shine), kite flying demonstrations, artisan's alley and more.

Students at Nose Creek School run for Terry Fox

Students at Nose Creek Elementary School celebrated Terry Fox and his marathon to end cancer on Sept. 24 with a performance from motivation speaker, hip hop recording artist and Much Music Video Award nominee Shaun Boothe, a ceremonial lap around the field and a balloon release.

Fifth annual AIRdirondack Gala sets records

The fifth annual Airdriondack Gala was held at McAurhters McArthurs Fine Furniture on Sept. 20. Twelve chairs created by local artists were auctioned off, along with other silent auction items, and raised a record setting approximately $26,000 for Creative Airdrie. Record bids of $3,000 where also received for two of the chairs.

The dead live at third annual Zombie Cup

The third annual Zombie Cup in support of the Airdrie Food Bank was held at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park on Aug. 23. The 'undead' football game was a but if a lopsided contest in favour of the Stumpeaters, who 'clawed' their way to a 48-18 victory. The event raised $3,500 for the food bank.
