Calgary Police Service, RCMP, the Airdrie branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and Airdrie residents honoured local fallen soldiers on Oct. 26 with a parade of motorcycles throughout the city and the laying of crosses along Veterans Boulevard.

Faith and Football event brings CFL players to Airdrie

Members of the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders made a stop in Airdrie on Oct. 23 to talk about their careers and their personal faith and the third annual Faith and Football fundraising dinner held at the Town and Country Centre. The event raised $6,130 for Athletes in Action, a ministry that focuses on domain of sport.

École francophone d'Airdrie

The new playground at École francophone d'Airdrie officially opened on Oct. 9 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at the school. Qualico Communities donated $50,000 toward the cost of the playground and employees volunteered to help build it.

AIRscares back for third year

The Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie (BGCA) is scaring up fun once again for the third annual AIRscares haunted attraction. Organizers hope the event, in support of programs and services for BGCA, raises $20,000 - $25,000 this year. The scary event runs until Oct. 31 at the old RCMP detachment on Edmonton Trail.

Miller Aerosol Art Camp

A number of artists came to Miller Paint Park, near Nose Creek Valley Museum, with their spray paint ready on Sept. 28 as they took part in the Miller Aerosol Art Camp as part of ARTember. Artists created colourful pieces of public art.

Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter, located in Crossfield, held the Paw It Forward adoption event on Sept. 27 at the shelter. The event allowed participants to adopt cats and kittens for a reduced adoption fee. Four adult cats and one kitten found their forever homes and were adopted at the event.

Nose Creek students get up close with ambassador animals

The Earth Rangers, a non profit group with a a mission to educate and empower children about wildlife, showed students at Nose Creek Elementary School their ambassador animals during an assembly on Sept. 24. Animal included a three-banded armadillo, a red fox, an African serval, a peregrine falcon and an American kestrel.

The Great Cupcake Eating Challenge

ARTember wrapped up with Culture at the Creek at Nose Creek Park from Sept. 26 to 28. Back again this year was The Great Cupcake Eating Challenge on Sept. 28, where competitors had to eat as many Avenue Cakery and Bakeshoppe cupcakes as they could in eight minutes. The Challenge ended in a tie with both Gary Ramsay and Courtney Johnson eating nine cupcakes.
