Cochrane collective art studio now open

The grand opening of a new collective art studio in Cochrane will be held on June 26 from 12 to 5 p.m., at 205 3 Ave. West.

The grand opening of Saffron Collective Studios will include music by local folk artist Kristen McMillan, food, pottery and sculpting demonstrations and door prizes. Attendance is free and open to the public.

Saffron is a working art studio and gallery, which houses a full pottery facility as well as space for other artists.

Manager Nicole Byl, ran her own pottery studio for four years, but decided there was a need for more studio space in Cochrane.

“I feel totally encouraged, I am very pleased with the reception I have gotten from the community and the general public,” said Byl. “I wanted to help grow the arts community in Cochrane, and provide a location where other artists, whether potters or not, could come and be creative.”

The facility opened in April and offers pottery classes for adults and children, kids’ summer camps, low-cost studio memberships and a gallery of studio work.

In addition to the pottery studio, there is an artisan who focuses on organic skin care products as well as a painter. There is room for several more artists within the facility.
