The Airdrie Women in Business Association (AWBA) is hosting World of Opportunities: Envision Your Vision – a networking event aimed at women who own or are thinking about owning a business.
Crystal Boys, founder of Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. – a non-profit aimed at providing women in Airdrie the resources to leave domestic abuse – will be sharing her story of domestic violence and how others can take action. Nancy McPhee of Stephen’s Backpacks Society and Jayne Kirby, AWBA past president will also be speaking.
Alina Novacut, vice president and event director for AWBA, said the event is important in aiding and empowering women in their business ventures.
“I think to me, it’s very important to see people supporting each other,” she said.
Novacut moved to Airdrie approximately one year ago and become a life and business coach. After becoming a member of AWBA, leadership positions became available.
“Ultimately, what made me love this place is how supportive businesses are with each other,” she said.
Having Boys speak at the event makes it all the more personal for Novacut, having been a single mother herself. She said she was fortunate enough to have a good support system but realizes the desperate need for a shelter here in Airdrie.
“I’m a woman and I love helping people. So I’m trying to take advantage of my position [as]vice president to actually do something good for the community,” she said.
The room will be set up buffet style, allowing guests time to mingle.
“I always love talking to people while I’m waiting in line for food or anything, so I thought it would be a good idea,” Novacut said.
The event will be held Sept. 26 at the Apple Creek Golf Course.
Tickets are $30 and include a complimentary drink and appetizers. Proceeds go to Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit airdriewomen.ca
