Airdrie parents can finish their Christmas shopping kid-free or simply have some down time to themselves by registering their children for a Social Supper workshop.
Social Supper is a local meal prep company located on Kingsview Boulevard that helps families put together quick, easy and healthy meals to make at home, according to owner and operator Kaidy Morgan.
The business is hosting three Kids Make and Take Workshops for the first time this year from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 16, as well as from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Dec. 9.
“The goal is really to be able to create some gifts for grandparents or parents without the parents actually being there, and give parents a chance to have some down time or mall time by themselves,” Morgan said. “We really try and focus on educating people and, in this case, kids, on what they’re putting into their bodies and what they’re creating as far as food goes.”
In each session, kids will be painting ornaments, making Christmas cards and putting together mason jars full of ingredients for things like soups, cookies or brownies to take home and make with their parents.
“They’re going to be creating a Christmas breakfast that’s a surprise for the family,” she added. “It’s all freezer-friendly so it can go into the freezer until Christmas morning and then everyone can kind of share in that Christmas breakfast that the child has produced.”
Each session is $65 and is recommended for kids between ages five and 10.
“It brings kids in, which allows them to socialize with other kids their own age, and they’re still going to be creating something that they can then gift and feel proud about to their grandparents or parents without having their parents kind of overseeing the whole situation,” she said.
With each child registered, Social Supper will donate $5 to a local group organizing a Children’s Christmas Market Dec. 22 for less-fortunate children and parents to pick out gifts for family members.
