Homeowner assaulted during robbery

Airdrie RCMP is looking for three suspects responsible for assaulting a homeowner with bear spray Nov. 17 during a robbery at a rural residence north of Conrich, according to Cpl. Clint Chisan. The incident took place at approximately 4:45 p.m.

“A homeowner had been in a out building at that property and he noticed a suspicious vehicle in his driveway. He went out and spoke with a female who was in the vehicle and, while doing so, two male suspects came out of his residence and assaulted him with bear spray,” Chisan said.

The men got in the vehicle and fled the scene. Chisan said the vehicle is described as an early 2000s model, grey, four-door sedan in poor repair with a black roof and black steel wheels.

EMS was called to the scene and treated the homeowner for the effects of bear spray as well as for some minor injuries he sustained.

It was later confirmed property was stolen from the residence. Chisan did not know what had been stolen.

RCMP describes the female suspect as Caucasian in her late 20s to early 30s, with a thin build and shoulder length, dirty-blonde hair. Working with the homeowner, RCMP developed a composite sketch of this suspect.

One of the male suspects is described by RCMP as black, in his 30s, approximately 5’11” and weighing 200 pounds. The homeowner was not able to provide a description of the second male suspect, according to Chisan.

Airdrie RCMP arrested one man for a break and enter to a residence west of Airdrie Nov. 23 but is still looking for his female accomplice.

“At about six o’clock in the morning, the homeowner awoke and found two people in their residence. The homeowner confronted the suspects and they fled on foot,” said Alberta RCMP Media Spokesman Cpl. Curtis Peters. “They contacted 911 and our members attending along with the RCMP Police Dog Services and some support from members of the Emergency Response Team.”

The residence is located on Township Road 265 near Range Road 13, just west of the City of Airdrie, according to Peters.

“The police dog located the male suspect hiding in a treed area not too far from the scene of the crime,” he said. “That male suspect was taken into custody.”

Peters said police had yet to locate the female suspect and is asking anyone with any information to call Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200.

RCMP describes the woman as Caucasian with long hair. She was wearing a dark green coat and carrying a backpack.

Peters did not know if the suspects had actually taken anything from the home before being interrupted by the homeowner. Charges are pending against the male suspect and Peters said more information will be forthcoming.
