CrossIron Mills mall shopping centre in Balzac is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Southern Alberta through a Love Lock Wall inspired by the love-lock bridge in Paris.
“We’re encouraging our customers to give back this holiday season by locking in their love,” said Angela Woronka, marketing and tourism director for CrossIron Mills.
“At the Love Lock Wall, customers are able to purchase a padlock on which they can dedicate a message and then lock it into the wall. And as a thank you for the donation, customers will receive a ‘keypsake.’”
Those who purchase a lock receive the keys for the lock and can choose a necklace with a pendant that reads ‘hero,’ ‘love,’ ‘peace’ or a ‘best friends’ set.
Woronka said participants can put the keys on the necklace to wear or give it as a gift to someone special as a symbol of the donation made in their name.
The fundraiser kicked off Nov. 28 and will run until Dec. 24. The locks will be on display until then at the Love Lock Wall next to Guest Services near Entry 2.
It’s the first time CrossIron Mills has participated in the fundraiser and Woronka said they plan to do it again next year.
“Next holiday season we’re going to bring them all back out on the same display and they can lock in their love again next year,” Woronka said.
Locks can be purchased from noon to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday or from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
They are $15 each or two for $25. The friendship set is $20. One hundred per cent of the proceeds are going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Southern Alberta.
“We know they’re an amazing charity and do amazing things for the community and we thought they would be the perfect charity to be involved for this promotion,” Woronka said.
“Because it is the season of giving, we’re encouraging people to come down and give to an amazing charity that’s very local and very near and dear to many peoples’ hearts.”
