Stuff the doggy bus fundraiser is back

The third annual Stuff the Doggy Bus is back Dec. 9 in support of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society at the Towerlane Centre Petvalu, located at 505 Main St. South, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We’re trying to bring awareness to the fact that (the Humane Society) covers the Airdrie area,” said Victoria Thiessen of the Crate Escape.

Thiessen is asking people to come down and stuff the “doggy bus” with anything the shelter could use such as paper towels, pet toys or food. They can also enter their name to win thousands of dollars worth of prizes.

“We’ll have all the prizes lined up inside the Petvalu and we have loads of business involved,” she said.

Prizes include a new snowboard worth more than $600 and a cruelty-free basket with tons of safe and cruelty-free products.

Thiessen said she hopes this fundraiser can highlight the Humane Society’s 24-hour-a-day animal emergency coverage in Airdrie. She said the coverage includes such cases as neglect, injury and stray animals.

“Even though it’s been going on for two years, we just want to bring awareness to the fact that they have this coverage,” she said.

Santa’s not the only one who needs sweets, treat your dog with a puppy cupcake for $2.50 or snap a photo with the man in red himself and your pooch for $5.

“We really just want to stock the bus full of items. We take anything that they can use – cleaning supplies, old towels and food. Any kind of shelter item or toys,” Thiessen said. “Anything you might turn away thinking it’s useless when it’s really a valuable item at the shelter.”

The following locations will be accepting donations on behalf of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society: Petvalu Towerlane location, Pet Planet Sierra Springs location and Mane Image Hair Design on Main Street.
