We would like to commend our local RCMP detachment and an Airdrie resident for taking the time to rescue an owl that somehow became caught in a soccer net on the school grounds at Ralph McCall School.
The owl was spotted at approximately 7:45 a.m. by staff and students at the school Sept. 11, which was a Monday, so it could have been caught there for a couple of days.
Staff and students were able to flag down a police cruiser driving by. A resident, Jennifer Landels, approached the officers and said she had experience with owls and would like to help. She was able to throw her jacket over the owl while officers cut away the netting to free the bird and took it to a vet in Calgary.
Not many people would take the time to rescue an animal caught in a net, so it’s rewarding for us to be able to write stories with happy endings.
