Apple Creek Golf Course, located four kilometres north of Airdrie, will host its third annual charity golf tournament, Sept. 14. The tournament is organized by the Airdrie Business Club and the Airdrie Lions Club, and raises funds for the Airdrie and Area Hospice Society.

Two local clubs are hoping Airdrie golfers are ready to hit the links for a good cause. Registration for the third annual charity golf tournament at Apple Creek Golf Course is open until Sept. 6, with the event set to take place Sept. 14. Teams of four are encouraged to sign up for the tournament, which is organized each year by the Airdrie Business Club and the Airdrie Lions Club. Proceeds will go towards the Airdrie and Area Hospice Society (AAHS), According to AAHS board president Lise Blanchette. Blanchette said last year’s tournament included about 40 golfers and raised roughly $1,000 for the society. “In terms of participants, we’d like to have lots of people out supporting us,” she said. “Golf season is coming to an end – it’s getting a little chilly out there. “We went out last year and had a great time.” Blanchette said the proceeds from the tournament will help the AAHS continue to “get its name out” into the community. “It’s important for us to let people know that we’re in the community and we do have a solid volunteer pool of people who can provide bedside respite at no cost,” she said. “We also have a compassionate care fund, where we provide funding to cover costs that aren’t covered anywhere else. That could be for hospital parking fees, it could be for medication [or] transportation. “We have a number of initiatives we’re working towards to help people in Airdrie.” The tournament takes place at the Apple Creek Golf Course, located north of Airdrie along Main Street and Dickson Stevenson Trail. The opening tee-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Registration costs $110 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, use of a golf cart, and food and drink throughout the day. There will also be golf-related prizes for participants to play for. To register for the tournament, email [email protected] or [email protected]
