GALLERY: Multi-faith symposium comes to Airdrie

The event included presentations, booths displaying elements of various religions and cultures, and different cuisines for attendees to try.

The Airdrie chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women Association (AMWA) hosted its first ever interfaith symposium on April 29 at Genesis Place Recreation Centre.

The event included presentations, booths displaying elements of various religions and cultures, and different cuisines for attendees to try.

Speakers included Jolyn Miller representing the Christian faith, Pamela Lashmore representing the Métis community, Dr. Jarjot Singh representing the Sikh community, and Dr. Amtal Qadoos Farhat representing the Muslim community.

The woman-led symposium was officially called "Empowerment of Women Through Their Faith.”

In addition to being an educational collaboration, the event also generated 340 pounds of food donations for the Airdrie Food Bank.

The symposium featured female speakers talking individually about Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Métis spiritual traditions. Then, all the speakers sat together to engage in dialogue and take audience members' questions on the subject of faith, and women’s role in religion.

2023 marks the 100-year anniversary of the formation of AMWA.
