Library Link: New summer hours at APL

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), we usually slow things down for the summer months.

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), we usually slow things down for the summer months.

This generally means closing for Sundays, something we’ve done for years because people simply want to be outside enjoying the snow-free months.

However, this summer we will be open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., beginning on June 30.

There are many reasons for doing this, our membership has increased, which means more people are accessing the library and its resources, but mostly patrons want us to be open seven days a week.

As the city has grown, so has the use of the facility and its services, so opening on Sunday is a logical progression.

But wait, there’s more, we will also be shifting our Monday to Friday opens hours to 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Tuesday, July 2.

This allows for more evening programming, which you’ll notice in our upcoming Summer Program brochure, and for extended hours for clubs, more study time, and library access after standard business hours.

It also extends safe space access for people who have nowhere to go after other locations such as Community Links close for the day.

And now for something completely different.

We’re upping the game on APL’s involvement in the City’s annual Canada Day parade.

Usually, we just have our van and book bike in the parade, but this year we’re asking Airdronians of all ages to join us in celebrating our shared journey in literacy.

Dress up as your favorite storybook character or garb yourself in festive red and white, grab some shakers, and strut your stuff for all or part of the parade route, whatever works for you.

Kids under 9 will need a grown-up sidekick, and only one registration per family required.
