Pioneer Acres, a museum located just outside Irricana, hosted its 52nd annual show Aug. 5 to 7.

Pioneer Acres Museum is gearing up for its highly anticipated annual spring antique tractor pull on May 27, promising a thrilling experience for participants and spectators alike.

The Irricana-area museum’s yearly event marks the venue's official kick-off for the 2023 season, and promises to transport visitors back in time.

Organizers promise that Pioneer Acres Museum will come alive with the roar of engines and the sight of vintage tractors flexing their proverbial muscles.

“This event is meant to be a fun activity for both participants and spectators and will be a great way to kick off the 2023 season,” said Jessie Moen, chairman of the tractor committee for Pioneer Acres.

The event gets underway in the morning on Saturday, with registration for tractor-pullers beginning at 9 a.m.

Enthusiastic participants will have the opportunity to showcase their antique tractors and compete for glory in the tractor-pulling competition, scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

To ensure a seamless registration process, multiple options are provided. Tractor-pullers can secure their spot by paying a registration fee of $20. For added convenience, pre-registration is available through the Spring Tractor Pull event page on Facebook.

Alternatively, on-site registration will be open for those who prefer to sign up in person on the day of the event.

Spectators are in for a nostalgia-fuelled treat as they witness the incredible machines, according to Moen.

“This event allows us to showcase the power of these antique tractors and brings life on the prairies from the past back to a living experience,” she said.

Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $9 for youth under 16, and children under six can enjoy the event for free.

The tractor pull competition will feature two distinct classes based on the year ranges of the equipment. The first class showcases tractors from 1960 and earlier, while the second class highlights tractors from 1961 to 1965.

Both classes will be further divided into weight divisions, ranging from Featherweight through 6. This ensures fair competition and provides an opportunity for every tractor puller to demonstrate their skills and strength, according to Moen.

The event goes beyond the tractor pull itself, as the museum will also be open to visitors, offering a unique opportunity to explore the history preserved within its walls.

The event is a chance to step back in time and gain a deeper appreciation for the agricultural heritage and rural traditions that shaped the community.

“The museum will be open for visitors and we will have a food truck on site,” Moen said.

The competition will be filled with a sense of pride in the rich agricultural heritage that binds the community together.

Residents of and visitors to Irricana alike are encouraged to mark their calendars for May 27 and make their way to Pioneer Acres for a memorable day.

Attendees can stay informed about the event by visiting the museum's website and following their Facebook page for regular updates.

Pioneer Acres is located north of Irricana, just off of Township Road 274.
