North Rocky View Community Links’ sixth annual Wine Down fundraiser, starting at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at Woodside Golf Course, is an excellent opportunity to have a night out while supporting the organization’s ongoing work within Airdrie. “The atmosphere is large enough to be festive and small enough to feel welcoming,” said Laurie Jacob-Toews, community engagement manager with Community Links. “The other benefit is, all proceeds from the evening support children’s programming at Community Links.” The fundraiser, which includes drinks and appetizers, live entertainment, raffles and a silent auction, goes a long way to ensuring Community Links children’s programming – offered with universal access – can continue running free of charge. “[Funds will be used to] cover cost of programming supplies and the things we need to maintain the calibre of the programming,” Jacob-Toews said. “We always want to make sure…the programs are successful and are enjoyable for the families.” While Community Links provides programming for all ages, Jacob-Toews said programs geared to children comprises a large part of what the organization does in its effort to create strong individuals, strong families and strong communities. “Strengthening families and building confidence, while supporting positive parenting, healthy child development and social connections, will help ensure children have the nurturing relationships and safe, supportive environments to grow and learn,” she said. “The healthy development of all children provides a solid foundation for economic productivity, responsible citizenship, strong communities and successful parenting of the next generation.” Wine Down also aligns with Community Links' vision to strengthen the community by providing an opportunity for residents to connect and create community bonds, Jacob-Toews added. “The event is always so much fun,” she said. “We have lots of people that come every year, just because it is a great night out.” Since its creation in 2012, Wine Down has raised $60,000. Jacob-Toews said this year’s goal, as with years past, is to raise another $10,000. Fundraising capabilities are somewhat constrained by the golf course’s capacity, she said, which is limited to 120 people. Tickets for the event are available until Nov. 9 at eventbrite.ca at a cost of $45, but Jacob-Toews encouraged people to purchase tickets in advance for food-planning purposes. She added Community Links is still looking for sponsors and donations for the silent auction, and anyone interested can email [email protected] “We like to think of things that are kind of unique and different,” Jacob-Toews said of silent auction items. “We like experience-type things, we find that those are always a hit.”
