Recently re-elected Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie has a new portfolio to immerse himself in, after being named the new Alberta Infrastructure Minister on June 9.

After a few weeks of speculation since the May 29 election, Premier Danielle Smith revealed her new cabinet on Friday morning. The 25-member cabinet is a slightly smaller group than Smith's initial cabinet, which she appointed after first taking over the UCP leadership last year.

Her new cabinet includes a combination of both first-time and returning ministers.

“I am so pleased to have this team working with me to deliver on the promises we made to Albertans during the election,” Smith said in a government press release after revealing the cabinet. “These are not just our government’s priorities, they are Albertans’ priorities. The next four years start today, and I can’t wait to get back to work with each of my cabinet colleagues.”

Guthrie, who served temporarily as Energy Minister under the previous UCP government, will take over the infrastructure portfolio from Nathan Neudorf, who has transitioned to the roles of Minister of Affordability and Utilities as well as vice-chair of the Treasury Board
