Airdrie RCMP investigates attempted armed robbery near city's downtown

RCMP officers in Airdrie are trying to find who allegedly attempted to assault a 15-year-old male on Aug. 27.

In a press release, Airdrie's local policing detachment stated the incident took place on 7:26 p.m., when the teenaged suspect was walking by the corner of Centre Avenue and Albert Street, when he was approached by a masked suspect armed with a baseball bat.

"The suspect tried to intimidate the male by showing the bat and demanded he hand over his shoes," the release stated, adding the young victim managed to fend off the assailant. 

"The victim grabbed the bat and disarmed the offender, who dropped his mask as he ran away. No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident."  

The suspect is described as a 16- or 17-year-old with a light complexion and short blonde hair. He wore a grey shirt, black. pants, and had on black shoes.
