Annual business grants awarded by County

Rocky View County council awarded $75,000 in Business Center and Commercial Corridor Enhancement (BCCCE) grant money to local businesses, July 20.

Rocky View County council awarded $75,000 in Business Center and Commercial Corridor Enhancement (BCCCE) grant money to local businesses, July 20.

The money was given as part of the County’s Economic Development Strategy and will be used to fund projects in an effort to promote local businesses.

“We are very pleased that groups are taking advantage of the program because it will result in more attractive business,” said County Reeve Lois Habberfield.

This year, the Bragg Creek Design Review Committee will receive $30,000 for signage, banners, garbage containers and power source wiring.

The Langdon Community Association will receive $10,000 for cement planters, soil, trees and shrubs.

The Springbank Commercial Park Business Association will receive $35,000 for completion of a mailbox gazebo, streetlight hardware, landscaping, signage and a garbage container.

According to Habberfield, the grants are just part of Rocky View council’s commitment to business within the county.

“We are very business friendly,” said Habberfield.

“We try to keep our non-residential taxes competitive throughout the province. It benefits everyone if you have businesses in the county. Businesses are an integral part of every community.”

BCCCE grants are awarded annually and provide eligible non-profit community groups, such as business associations and design committees, up to $10,000 in funding toward capital expenditures.

Streetscape enhancements such as new or improved signage, fencing, flags, lighting, landscaping, trash receptacles, and benches are some examples of initiatives that qualify for funding under this grant.

Since its inception in 2006, Rocky View’s Business Corridor and Commercial Enhancement Grant have provided $270,000 in funding to numerous community initiatives.
