Former Canadian military peacekeeper Andre Aubut has made it official: he will seek an alderman position in the upcoming municipal election.
“I want to run for alderman because I genuinely care for our community,” said Aubut. “I’ve always felt obligated to give back.”
Aubut has lived in Airdrie for 20 years and has been involved in numerous committees, owned businesses and is a licensed real estate agent.
Unlike other candidates, Aubut isn’t taking issue with the current City council, he just wants a piece of the action.
“I don’t think the current council did a poor job,” said Aubut. “I just want to be part of the processes as our community grows.”
Aubut wants to contribute to municipal business practices, an area where he has “a lot of business experience.”
Aubut has worked extensively in local development and was “instrumental” in having McKee Homes build a house for the rotary club. The house was later sold and $50,000 in profits went to the club.
“What I bring to the table is my commitment to community, I’ve proven that with Rotary (Club),” said Aubut, who finished a one-year presidency of the club in June.
While Aubut keeps a close eye on the workings of Airdrie’s council, he’s chooses not to pick allegiances and is prepared to work hard in his new role.
“I’ve always been concerned about issues in our community, but I don’t have a political position,” said Aubut. “My role and my task initially is to become as informed as I can.”
“If elected, I’ll listen to the constituents,” he said. “Not one call will go ignored.”
