After acquiring the Hampton Inn and Suites, the Rocky View Foundation converted the hotel into 92 senior living suites. RVF is currently making headway on its Bragg Creek area project.

Earlier this month, the Rocky View Foundation (RVF), an organization that has provided affordable housing options to independent seniors for over 63 years, announced a progress report on a proposed seniors housing project in Bragg Creek.

A press release published by RVF said that the organization is currently looking for ways to secure funding to help pay for the project, and has formed an advisory committee made up of RVF board members and Bragg Creek residents to “provide valuable guidance” to the development team to ensure the project aligns with “community values and priorities.”

“RVF is dedicated to transparency and collaboration throughout the project's development,” reads a statement from the foundation. “We are committed to keeping the Hamlet of Bragg Creek and its residents informed of milestones and progress as we move forward.”

RVF Chief Administrative Officer Chris Rowe said that the Bragg Creek project is currently in the pre-construction phase, with the first part of the phase dedicated to securing seed funding.

“This funding allows us to progress with demand assessments, land rezoning, design work, and completing the necessary preparations for groundbreaking,” said Rowe, who added that if this initial round of funding is successful, the rough project completion date would be 24 to 30 months from now.

RVF recently opened a 93-unit seniors lodge at Abrio Place in Airdrie earlier this year, and has four other senior living facilities in Beiseker, Cochrane, Airdrie and Crossfield.

According to Rowe, the advisory committee that RVF is starting will be expected to function throughout the project's duration, and could be active for several years until construction is complete. Rowe also said he believes the committee would provide expert guidance, community engagement, and stakeholder representation.

Rowe said the foundation’s housing project in Bragg Creek is critically important to addressing the issue of housing shortages in the hamlet.

“The Bragg Creek community and surrounding areas face a significant affordable housing shortage,” he said. “This project aims to provide much-needed homes for seniors who struggle to find affordable living options.”

“Beyond individual benefits, this project will enhance our community's overall quality of life," continued Rowe. "It will provide a place for seniors to age in the community, which promotes diversity, strengthens community ties, and creates a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents.”

As far as funding goes, the RVF is still waiting to hear back from some funding applications it has sent out.

“Securing the necessary financial resources is a crucial step in moving forward with our housing project,” said Rowe. “We are committed to ensuring that every requirement is met, and every opportunity is explored.”

Rowe mentioned that the total cost of the project will depend on several factors, including the number of units we can get approved and whether we build in two phases or just one.
