Trustees endorsed a financial audit of Rocky View Schools by Doloitte & Touche LLP, Dec. 2.
The statement detailed the school board’s $2.159 million surplus and its report will be submitted to Alberta Education.
“It gives us a lot of confidence when they agree that this is a clean audit,” said Ward 3 trustee Sylvia Eggerer of the external review. “As part of the audit committee, I feel very confident that our bases are covered.”
The audit took three months beginning in August and was completed in an efficient manner, according to Bob Wilson, director of finance for Rocky View Schools.
“I would just like to make the comment that on a $170 million budget, the variance on closing our books August 31 is insignificant,” said Greg Bass, superintendent of schools. “It was expended the way it was intended to be.”
“I’m very happy with the audit committee and the auditors,” said Bass. “Once again, in four years… this is the cleanest (audit) in terms of recommendations.”
A statement was included in the report from Deloitte & Touche LLP, which approved of the information it was presented with and reviewed.
“We conducted our audit in accordance with Canadian generally accepted auditing standards,” reads an excerpt from the auditors’ report. “In our opinion, these financial statement present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the Jurisdiction as at August 31, 2010…”
