Airdrie royalty has been busy

I can’t believe it is already May. This year has gone by very quickly. It has been filled with opportunity and excitement. Gillian Shields, Miss Rodeo Airdrie, and I have been busy volunteering around the Airdrie area.

The event raised a total of $3,600 for the Airdrie Rodeo Royalty.

I can’t believe it is already May. This year has gone by very quickly. It has been filled with opportunity and excitement. Gillian Shields, Miss Rodeo Airdrie, and I have been busy volunteering around the Airdrie area.

In the beginning of April, I attended the WPCA tarp auction to escort the drivers on stage. I was thrilled to meet Kelly Sutherland, Mark Sutherland, Grant Profit and the rest of the drivers in attendance.

Gillian and I were also excited to volunteer at the Bass Pro Shops Easter Egg Hunt and the Living Springs Christian Fellowship Easter Egg Hunt at East Lake Park. The kids loved the chocolate and candy.

Gillian visited Kids Matter to Us Daycare in Olds. We also attended the Spring Fashion Show hosted by the Olds Rapids Swim Club and Side Street Fashions, April 13.

I braved the rainy weather on April 14 to help out at the Ride n’ Drive Annual Used Tack Sale. Gillian and I attended the Calgary Stampede Giddy Up Grits Breakfast for children with special needs on April 21. After breakfast, we went to Aggie Days where we received kisses from an Alpaca named Felix. We were invited to record an interview with the Calgary Stampede Next Generation Committee on our thoughts of the Stampede and the Rodeo as the event celebrates 100 years. We had some pretty interesting thoughts which made for an entertaining video.

Later that day, we attended Volunteer Airdrie’s Cheers for Volunteers appreciation event. It was a great time and a pleasure to share the room with some amazing volunteers. The next day found us at Tour de Airdrie managing an intersection on the route. While waiting for participants, we created a great sign that read, “Honk if you love the Airdrie Pro Rodeo.” Thank you to everyone who honked and waved on the way by.

The next weekend brought the Airdrie Home & Lifestyle show. Gillian and I visited many vendors and attendees. We were invited to be Celebrity Models in the Mark’s fashion show on April 28. The Airdrie Home & Lifestyle show is always one of my favourite events, it is a great way to get a glimpse of the many businesses in Airdrie.

Gillian and I had a great time on May 2 at McHappy Day, we helped out at the drive-thru at the Edmonton Trail location. It was another great way to help out the community and benefit local charities.

We held our second annual Black Tie Funny Money Casino on May 5 at the Diamond Room. We had a great time with our guests and had about 100 people attend. Both Gillian and I enjoyed dealing blackjack and auctioning off items during the live auction.

We will also be attending the Stavely Indoor Pro Rodeo on May 11. Gillian and I have been blessed to have such a wonderful opportunity granted to us.

I wish the best of luck to the contestants for our titles this year. The Airdrie Pro Rodeo will run from June 27 to July 1. Canada Day is the big day for us this year as we will crown a new queen and princess to represent the Airdrie Pro Rodeo for the 2012/2013 reign. This is also the 45th Anniversary of the Airdrie Pro Rodeo. We would love to see you there.
