Letter to the Editor: Don't turn your eyes away from Gaza

LETTERS

Dear Editor,

As one of your regular readers, I am extremely outraged and concerned by your lack of coverage of the famine in Gaza. The famine in Gaza is not imminent; the famine is being waged against the people of Gaza. The International Criminal Court requested arrest warrants for the arrests of Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for this very reason. Using starvation as a weapon of war is cruel, inhumane and illegal. This is further compounded by our government’s weak positions and complicit support in this horrific crime.

On May 30th, Fayiz Abu Ataya was murdered by starvation. He was only 7 months old. The day after on June 1st, Abdulqader Al-Serhi was murdered at 13 years old by starvation. Overall, 37 people have died this slow and horrifying death and unless something is done immediately that number will start to rise at an accelerated rate. Tens of thousands of vulnerable children, women and elderly are suffering from malnutrition without adequate healthcare. A snapshot survey over 3 days found that 85% of children are going without food for days. When they do eat, only 5% eat more than 2 food groups.

Your position as journalists is to uncover and amplify the truth to inform the public. Your failure to report on Israel’s intentionality behind this tactic as well as the increasing rate of these cruel murders is worse than turning a blind eye; it is providing cover for war crimes. As a member of your audience, I cannot stress enough the importance of providing accurate coverage on this situation. These horrific murders are completely preventable and perhaps with enough awareness we can save a life.

Regards,
