Nomination Day has come and gone in the Village of Beiseker with three submissions filed in the race to fill a vacant councillor seat.
Mike Duffy, David Ledoyen, and Stephanie Young have all been nominated to run for the position of village councillor in Beiseker’s upcoming by-election, scheduled for Oct. 17.
Candidates will share their platforms and thoughts on local issues during the Oct. 3 candidates’ forum.
The forum starts at 7 p.m. at the Beiseker Community Hall at 410 5th Street.
Topics of discussion will be up to the candidates, according to Heather Leslie, the CAO of the Village of Beiseker, and the format will give each nominee a chance to express their views openly, as well as answer questions from the public.
There will be no advance voting prior to election day.
While the last general election took place in 2021, the most recent by-election occurred in 2016.
The council position waiting to be filled this fall was previously held by Coun. Karen Ursu, who passed away suddenly at the age of 68 on July 20. She had served on the Village council since 2011.
A GoFundMe page has been established to support the Ursu family as they handle the unexpected financial expenses arising from Ursu’s passing. They are also accepting private donations through her husband’s email at [email protected].
