UPDATE: Motorists remain in critical condition after June 6 collision in Rocky View County

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision. The investigation is ongoing and there will be no further updates.

Airdrie RCMP has issued an update to a serious motor vehicle collision on June 6 near Dalroy that has left two visitors from Europe in critical condition.

The Thursday update is in relation to an incident on June 6 at approximately 2 p.m., when Airdrie rural RCMP officers and other emergency first responders were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 564.

"A semi truck was travelling south on Highway 9 when an SUV crossed in front of it," the updated release stated. "The SUV was travelling eastbound on Highway 564 when it crossed in front of the semi truck."

The driver of the SUV had to be extracted from the vehicle by emergency personnel, according to the RCMP's email. The driver was in critical condition and transported by STARS air ambulance to the hospital.

"The lone passenger in the SUV was also in critical condition; they were transported by ground ambulance to hospital," the email reads. "The driver of the semi truck was not physically injured."

The SUV’s 29-year-old driver and 26-year-old passenger remain in critical condition. They are sisters, and residents of France.
