Why aren't RVS teachers required to have first aid training?

Dear editor,

No matter how well supervised children are, accidents happen.

The Calgary Board of Education has made it a job requirement for all teachers to maintain a valid first-aid certificate. The Rocky View School division, however, does’t mandate that teachers must maintain a valid first-aid certificate.

Unfortunately, this is not a fairy tale.

Now that we have our elected representatives in place, I implore voters to contact Greg Bass and Joanne White of the Rocky View School division, school trustees, the MLA and the minister of education and ask them why our children’s teachers do not have the same requirements as the teachers in Calgary.
